The Casavecchia estate has been growing grapes and making wines for over a century. The building which houses our winery is located in the village: it dates from the late 18th century and is made of Langa stones and bricks from that period. Its basement houses the wine cellar, which also dates from the late 18th century and has a combination of brick vaults and wooden ceilings. This is where, true to age-old practice, the Diano d'Alba D.O.C.G. is left to mature in cement containers whereas the Nebbiolo, Barbera, and Barolo wines age in oak casks and barriques of various sizes. All wines are made exclusively from grapes grown in vineyards belonging to the company. These vineyards extend over an area of about 10 hectares/24.7 acres which is approximately divided as follows: 5 hectares/12.35 acres of Dolcetto, 1.5 hectare/3.7 acres of Nebbiolo, 1.5 hectare/3.7 acres of Barbera, 1 hectare/2.47 acres of Merlot, and approximately 1 hectare/2.47 acres of Nebbiolo grapes for Barolo wine in the commune of Castiglione Falletto. The Casavecchia company is jointly run by the two brothers Marco (an agronomist) and Luca (an enologist), who still benefit from the expert advice of their father, Sergio. Carletta Artusio, who also comes from a family of winemakers, and Sergio's daughter Elisa Casavecchia, are in charge of the commercial side of the business. Production is limited in quantity, the focus being placed on careful selection so as to offer wines that are unmistakable for their delicacy, harmony, balance, structure, and typicality.
